Making cakes sometimes can make me feel old...

Inside I still feel like I am 21 [my body and bones tell a different story, but I don't really listen unless they SCREAM]... 21 plus some... My fear is to grow old, I never want to grow old (My nanna always said "NEVER GROW OLD KAYLEE!") but making cakes sometimes makes you feel your age or at lease remind you of your "NUMBER"...

This little lady (not so little) I played along side back in 2006 (maybe even before, my memory has gone.. I was about 20 at the time, she was 13... see CRAZY ) and I still see her as this tall fast young lady who has one step to my 30 carving it up on the field. So when she asked me to create her birthday cake, I couldn't say no.. but then once she said it was for her 21st... I was reminded that I am getting old.. WOW the big 21

Pretty Young lady celebrated her 21st cake day with a burlesque 1920's theme.

Lace, Black, Red and Feathers was my design brief along with a few inspiration pictures to make sure we both were on the same page.

Red Velvet layered in White Chocolate ganache was the Flavour of choice... Off cuts are the best served with Rubra coffee, Double Shot.

I have to make sure the cake taste fantastic... right?
Starting with a white cake canvas, the best way to get a nice vibrant red is by the AIRBRUSH.
Johnny and I airbrushed the cake board ad cake, then I hand piped (my piping skills have been left on the back burner thanks to Johnny) the lace design around the bottom on the bottom tier. I did this in white and then painted black. Took forever but I find these moments my {ZEN} (with  the right music and no interruptions).

After my piping and painting session I then added the finish touches, hand painted 21 monogram, icing roses and a black feather.
I think I am in LOVE with this cake, lucky I like the cake owner as I truly wanted to keep the cake for myself.

I also created some Red Velvet Cupcakes topped with fondant decorations to match. I baked extra so that I had some pretties for myself to enjoy after a satisfying job completed.
Now where is my walking stick!?!
